Description

This is a milepost located at the junction with Stainburn Road, dating from the mid-18th century. It is made of gritstone and stands approximately 90 centimetres tall with a square section. The south face features a crudely carved hand pointing east, while the east face has a crudely carved hand pointing north, along with remnants of lettering below. The place-names on the milepost appear to have been intentionally removed, likely when a more direct road between Leathley and Stainburn was constructed after 1793.
