Description
The Corn Mill is a Grade II* listed mill located in Leathley, built in the mid-18th century with some alterations from the 19th century. It features coursed grindstone walls and a corrugated asbestos roof, comprising a three-storey main range and a two-storey range at right angles, creating a T-shaped plan.
The main range includes a wagon-way on the ground floor to the left, supported by a metal girder, and a mill entrance accessed through a stable door under an arch on the right. The right-angled range has a narrow board door with a plain lintel on the right and two narrow unglazed windows on the first floor. This range does not have a ceiling.
At the rear of the main range, there is a low stone outshut with a corrugated-iron roof that covers the mill-race, which features an intact wooden and iron wheel, likely undershot. Above this, there are two square windows with plain surrounds in the main wall.
The interior of the mill is remarkably well preserved, showcasing original wooden floors, stairs, trap doors, shuts, corn bins, and the main shaft with cogs connected to the mill wheel. Additionally, there are corn-drying ovens located on the ground floor of the two-storey block.
