Description
The Methodist Church, built in 1826, is constructed from coursed gritstone and features a stone slate roof. The main entrance has central 20th-century panelled double doors, which are flanked by large 30-light sash windows, all with plain surrounds. Above the door, there is a square plaque inscribed with the date 'MDCCCXXVI' and a quotation from Matthew 24 verse 14. The building has a hipped roof and a stack located at the rear left corner. Surrounding the church are ramped retaining walls on the south and east sides, and there is a square-headed gateway on the north side that features a 20th-century board door with decorative hinges. This gate is accessed by a flight of three semicircular stone steps that include an iron boot-scraper.
Inside, the church retains its original panelled wooden sloping pews arranged around a central stepped aisle. There is a wooden panelled pulpit with a handrail and steps, as well as a communion rail. The north wall features dado panelling and choir benches, and there is a corner fireplace that has been blocked off.
