Description
Lindley Bridge over the River Washburn is a bridge built shortly after 1767, with a 19th-century addition to the north. It is constructed of ashlar stone. The bridge features a tall round arch on the left, a lower flood arch on the right, and a small round arch at the far right. There are large pointed cut-waters on each side, with plain voussoirs on the main and right arches, and rock-faced ashlar above. A projecting band runs along the top, leading to a parapet with flat-pointed coping. The larger two arches are flanked by shallow buttresses, with the coping raised slightly above them. The smaller arch on the far right has a rock-faced keystone and voussoirs, likely added when Lindley Wood Reservoir was constructed around 1866. A severe flood destroyed the original bridge in 1767.
