Description

Lindley Hall Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed, squared gritstone and has a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and features six first-floor windows. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century glazed door on the right, and to the left, there are two round-headed mullioned windows with four and five lights, both having straight hoodmoulds. Between these windows is a blocked round-arched doorway with bolection moulding and a 20th-century casement.

On the first floor, there are six cross-mullioned windows, with the fourth window from the left being blocked. The fifth and sixth windows have had their mullions removed below the transom and now contain 20th-century casements. The remaining windows are casements with lead cames. There is a moulded string-course at first-floor level, a moulded eaves cornice, and ashlar coping. The chimney stacks are located at the centre and the right gable.

At the rear, there is a blocked segmental-headed doorway, and the first floor features three- and five-light double-chamfered mullion windows. There is also a blocked first-floor door to the right with a chamfered surround and a deep lintel. The left gable end has been rebuilt, and there is a first-floor door accessed by an external stone stair. An attached range on the right, built in the 19th century, has two storeys and three bays but is not of special interest. The interior has not been inspected. A painting of the house by J M W Turner is located at Farnley Hall and depicts the right-hand range before its rebuilding.
