Description

Mill Hill and the attached cow byre/outbuilding is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof, while the byre has an artificial slate roof. The building is two storeys high with a rear outshut and has three first-floor windows. The single-storey byre is attached to the right of the house.

The house displays quoins and has a central 20th-century part-glazed door set in an ashlar surround. Above this door, there is a two-light window also in an ashlar surround. The other windows are mullioned and double-chamfered, consisting of three lights, except for a 20-pane sash window in a double-chamfered surround located on the ground floor to the right. The roof is hipped with end stacks.

The byre features a stable door flanked by six-pane windows. At the rear of the house, there is a central four-panel door in an ashlar surround. Inside the house, there are doors with four fielded panels, re-used beams, an 18th-century ashlar surround for the kitchen range on the left, and an eared architrave around the parlour fireplace on the right. The cow byre includes four king-post roof trusses.
