Description
Low Crosset and the attached outbuilding is a farmhouse and byre dating from the early 18th century, with the main house rebuilt later in the 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with herringbone tooling and features pantiled roofs with stone ridges, copings, kneelers, and stacks. The farmhouse has a hearth-passage plan and is two storeys high with two bays, while the downhouse has two lower storeys and one wide bay. The byre is a single storey with three bays.
There is a plinth and a half-glazed through-passage door located to the left of the downhouse. The windows are modern casements with stone cills and extended keyed lintels, with the lintel above the door and window in the downhouse being continuous. The byre includes two stable doors, with the left door flanked by small casements, and garage doors to the right under a replaced concrete lintel. The main house has coped end chimneys, and the rear elevation features modern casements and a half-glazed door. There are also two small extensions at the parlour end, which have stable doors and are stepped down.
Inside, the building displays a stop-chamfered cross beam and joists in the forehouse, along with a salt cupboard to the right of a later fireplace.
