Barn/Cartshed To North West Of Hollin Bower

The barn and cartshed located to the north-west of Hollin Bower is an 18th-century structure. It is built from coursed pecked sandstone and features massive herringbone-tooled alternating quoins and lintels. The roof is pantiled, with a stone ridge and copings. The building has an L-plan layout, consisting of one storey and a loft.

The taller short wing includes external stone stairs leading to a boarded door in the gable end, along with a pigeon entrance that has an alighting shelf on the inner face. The cartshed has been altered and now features one stable door and two garage doors, as well as a later stone stair leading to a henhouse door in the gable end.

The external elevation of the barn shows two full storeys with two wide bays. On the ground floor, there are two stable doors and one half-slatted window, with two similar windows located above. Inside, the upper floor displays an aisled roof construction, featuring a large diagonal tie that supports a kingpost at the junction, with wishbone ties connecting to the outer walls.
