Description

BILSDALE MIDCABLE B 1257 SE 59 SE East side (off) 18/7 Barn/cartshed to North-west of Hollin Bower GV II Barn and cartshed with loft over. C18. Coursed pecked sandstone with massive herringbone-tooled alternating quoins and lintels. Pantiled roof with stone ridge and copings. L-plan. 1 storey and loft. Taller short wing has external stone stairs to boarded door in gable end. Pigeon entrance with alighting shelf on inner face. Cartshed now has 1 stable door and 2 garage doors and a later stone stair to henhouse door in gable end. External barn elevation 2 full storeys, 2 wide bays. 2 stable doors and 1 half-slatted window on ground floor; 2 similar windows above. Interior shows aisled roof construction on upper floor and a big diagonal tie supporting a kingpost at junction; wishbone ties link to outer walls.
