Description
No 19 Hungate is an 18th-century house that stands two storeys tall, constructed from stone and topped with a Welsh slate roof. It features brick stacks at the gable ends and has coped gable ends with kneelers. The house has a modillion eaves cornice and rusticated quoins. There are three windows on the front, each with long stone flat lintels and keystones, and hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor showcases two mid-19th century canted bay windows. The entrance door consists of six panels and is topped by a semi-circular fanlight with radiating bars, supported by an open pediment on console brackets and flanked by panelled pilasters. Access is via two steps, with a curved iron handrail. A low stone forecourt wall is attached to the property. The right-hand section of the house is lower and features a circular window with radiating glazing bars above an elliptical-arched carriage entry that has a rusticated head, a blocked fanlight, and carriage doors.
This building is part of a group that includes the Forest Vale Hotel and the adjacent properties numbered 1 to 7, 9 to 15, 17 to 22, 24 to 26, 26A, and 27, with several of these being of local interest.
