Description
26-32 Vernon Road, including 6 Cliff Bridge Place, is a listed building comprising several structures. Number 26 is an altered two-storey house from the early 19th century, faced with stucco and currently known as "The Hole in Wall." It features three small canted bay windows with gabled tops on the first floor and two lunette windows on the ground floor, along with a central entrance.
Numbers 28 to 30 form a five-storey block made of red brick, also from the early 19th century. It has a low hipped slate roof with a gutter cornice. The upper floors have symmetrical fenestration with five windows, one of which is blind on the third and fourth floors where they are square. The second floor has a central window, with large tripartite bow windows in the outer bays, each featuring plain aprons, a frieze, and a cornice. The first floor has five windows, one of which is blind, all of which are recessed sashes with intact glazing bars and flat gauged brick arches. The ground floor has three altered shop windows framed by wide painted stone Doric pilasters, topped with an entablature.
Number 6 Cliff Bridge Place is the south return front and has three storeys due to the raised roadway. It is made of painted brick and features one window on the upper floor above a door with four moulded panels and a three-pane fanlight, set within a plain strip doorcase topped with a cornice.
