Description

Cliff Bridge Spa is a bridge completed in 1826, originally built in 1605. It features four segmental braced iron arches supported by plain tapering stone piers and stone abutments. The raising of the road level beneath the bridge has diminished the original dramatic view towards the Old Town and harbour. Although the side walks of the bridge have been altered, this has not affected the original design. The bridge is 414 feet long and was initially a toll bridge, providing access to the original "Spaw" and its mineral spring.
