Description

The Joiners' Shop attached to Ivy Dene is a 19th-century or earlier building that served as a joiners' shop and sawpit, and is now a workshop. It is constructed from squared limestone and features a corrugated zinc roof. The building is two stories high with a two-bay front, positioned against sloping ground at the rear and side. The front has paired plank doors beneath a heavy timber lintel, and there is a blocked window to the right under a thin timber lintel. On the right side, there is a shuttered doorway in the gable end, which was used to introduce timber into the sawpit. This joiners' shop was part of the Wrelton Iron Foundry, which operated from Foundry Farmhouse, and it was used to create wooden patterns for the moulding shop. The building is included for its historical interest.
