Description

WRELTON THE VILLAGE SE 7686-7786 (north side) 17/111 Joiners' Shop attached to Ivy Dene GV II

Joiners' shop and sawpit; now workshop. C19 or earlier. Squared limestone with corrugated zinc roof. 2-storey, 2-bay front, built against sloping ground at the rear and side. Paired plank doors beneath a heavy timber lintel. Blocked window beneath thin timber lintel to right. Right return: shuttered doorway in gable-end, through which timber was introduced into the sawpit. The joiners' shop formed part of the premises of the Wrelton Iron Foundry, run from Foundry Farmhouse (qv). Wooden patterns for the moulding shop were made in the joiners' shop. Included for historical interest.
