Description
The Methodist Chapel, built in 1840, features a later 19th-century extension, refenestration, and an added porch. Constructed from dressed limestone with a slate roof, it has a single-storey, three-bay front with a central projecting porch and a lean-to extension on the right. The gabled porch contains a panelled door beneath a plain fanlight, flanked by round-headed, six-pane sash windows with painted stone sills. The openings are adorned with painted tooled archivolts, keyblocks, and imposts. Above the porch, there is a square inscription stone with a recessed circular panel that reads: WESLEY METHODIST CHURCH 1840, and a clock by Kneeshaw of Pickering is positioned over the datestone. The hipped roof features grooved stone scrolls at each corner. The extension includes a board door beneath a fanlight to the right of a round-headed six-pane sash, both with archivolts similar to those on the main front, but without imposts. The cast-iron gates and railings at the front include cross-head railings and gates, with gate posts topped by mace heads, and the principal railings are finished with pointed finials.
