Description
Secretary's Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, constructed from hammer-dressed limestone with a pantile roof. It features a staircase lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys tall. The front has three first-floor windows, with an additional bay of different construction on the left. The left bay has a 20th-century half-glazed door, with no first-floor opening above it. On the right, there is a six-fielded-panel door set beneath a chisel-tooled flat stone arch, flanked by pairs of squat unequal six-pane sash windows beneath concrete lintels. The first floor includes a dummy window flanked by unequal twelve-pane sashes, all under timber lintels. The cottage has sprocketed eaves, gable coping, a shaped kneeler, and an end stack to the right, along with a ridge stack at the division of the different builds to the left. Inside, there is a bread oven made by Wright of Malton in the left room.
