Description
This building is a pair of stables or byres with a hayloft above, along with an attached wall, pigsty, and hen house, located approximately 10 metres east of Spring House. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and was likely altered in the late 19th century.
The stable range is two storeys high and consists of about five bays. It features quoins and a central board door with chamfered jambs and a stepped chamfered lintel. To the left, there is an inserted door, and on the far right, a byre door with a chamfered surround. A straight flight of stone steps leads to a first-floor door, which also has a chamfered surround. Under the eaves, there are recessed-chamfered single-light windows in the centre and to the left.
On the right side, the first floor has a two-light recessed-chamfered mullion window. Set back on the right is a wall with a board door in a chamfered surround, featuring a stepped chamfered lintel and a blocked pig feeding chute to the right. Further right is the pigsty with the hen house above, which is also two storeys. The gable front has quoins, a recess on the ground floor to the left, a door at first-floor level with a stone sill and lintel, and a hen entrance with a ledge to the left. The interiors have not been inspected.
