Description
DENTON DENTON PARK SE 14 NW (west side) 9/23 Former stables and coach- house approximately 100 metres north-west of Denton Park 22.11.66 (formerly listed as stables at Denton Hall) GV II
Stables and coach-house, now residences. 1776 by John Carr for Sir James Ibbetson. Converted c1980. Coursed squared gritstone, grey slate roof. 15 bays, single-storey apart from bays 4, 5, 11 and 12 which rise to 2 storeys and are the slightly projecting end walls of 5-bay cross wings which project to the rear and enclose a former courtyard, now part glazed. C20 doors in bays 5 and 11 with fanlight and round-arched windows with glazing bar sashes throughout ground floor, all in shallow blind arcade of round-headed arches with raised impost bands. Central 5 bays have balustrade with vase balusters. Eaves band carried across 2 storey wings at first-floor level. Two C20 glazing bar casement above 2 cross wings below flat lintels, plus sill band. Hipped roof, inserted stacks far left, and left bay, right. Rear: round-arched openings as front, C20 inserted windows. Fine cantilevered straight flight of external stairs to outer walls of cross wings.
