Description

This is a former school and schoolhouse, dating from the mid-19th century, with restoration work carried out in the mid-20th century. It is now used as offices. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a blue slate roof. It comprises a single-storey, three-bay range with a projecting, two-storey gabled wing to the right. The design is in a Jacobethan style. An entrance is located to the right of the main range, featuring a 20th-century board door within a gabled porch. The porch is topped by a gabled bellcote. Mullioned windows with hoodmoulds are present; the left side has windows of 3 lights, while the wing has windows of 1 and 3 lights on the ground floor and 1 and 2 lights on the first floor. The building has flat-faced stone gutter brackets, gable copings, and a ridge stack above the entrance with two octagonal flues, along with a three-flue stack to the far right. The rear elevation contains a 20th-century board door under a hoodmould, flanked by two-light mullioned windows. Three dormer windows are positioned above the eaves line; the one on the left is likely original, while the others date from around 1980. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included on the list primarily for its group value.
