Description

GREAT AYTON LOW GREEN NZ 5510 (north side, off) 11/75 Outbuilding to east of Manor House GV II

Stable-coach house and byre, with accommodation for groom. Early-mid C18 with many alterations. Red brick with stone dressings and pantiled roof. Long, narrow range. One storey, (formerly 2 storeys at west end, the original living quarters, with hayloft over). Stone plinth and quoins to 3-bay west end, and boarded door in stone surround. 2 plain C20 casements and a large 5-light C20 window to right. Left bay is a lower outhouse with felted roof and a blocked window under a gauged brick arch. Roof hipped at right with stone ridges. Long right return to road, in English garden wall bond, is largely screened by bushes but has 2 Yorkshire sashes. 5-bay left return to rear very irregular, with assorted doors and windows, some in alternate-block surrounds, some under flat brick arches. The right end projects to form an 'L' with a stone pier at the east corner. Included for group value.
