Description

The farm buildings and stables located to the north of Ayton Hall date from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. They are constructed from brick with ashlar dressings and feature pantile and modern metal sheet roofs, which have ashlar coped gables with kneelers. The buildings form four ranges around a courtyard.

The main front, facing southwest, is two stories high and features a central round-arched ashlar entrance with double plank doors. To the left, there is an ashlar doorway followed by an inserted doorway with double flank doors. On the right side, there is a central plank doorway with an overlight in an ashlar surround, flanked by single glazing bar windows. Above this entrance, there are four shuttered loft openings. The range is topped with an octagonal wooden cupola that has a bell and a canted lead dome with a weather vane.

The southeast front includes a two-story gabled bay to the south, which has a single doorway with a segment-headed ashlar surround, and above it, there is a loft taking-in door. Further east, there is a lower two-story range featuring a central glazing bar casement flanked by single stable doors with ashlar surrounds; the left stable door has been partly rebuilt in brick and is flanked by single glazing bar casements. Above this, there are two small shuttered loft openings.

The northeast range has a two-story gabled bay to the south with a single glazing bar casement and above it, a central glazing bar window in an ashlar surround. To the north, there are two stable doors with ashlar lintels. The northwest range has attached outbuildings.
