Description

The buildings at 31-37 North Marine Road form a row of houses dating to around 1840, and have been altered since their original construction. They are three storeys high with a basement, built of red brick with a wooden frieze and cornice, and originally had a common slate roof, with some portions later replaced by a mansard roof with dormers. Each house has two windows. The windows have later glazing, and are set within flat stucco arches. The row features five-storey canted bays extending from the basement to the first floor, and these bays have pilasters, cornices, and aprons. The doorways consist of four moulded panels, framed by pilasters and projecting cornices, and are set behind wrought iron railings. The buildings are listed for group value, contributing to the character of the group that includes all the odd-numbered buildings on the East side from number 31 to 115, which also includes Gibson's Hotel.
