Description

The Convent of the Ladies of Mary, located on Queen Street, was built in 1884 and designed by architect F. A. Walters. This large building features a long red brick frontage with stone dressings and a symmetrical composition that includes flattened Gothic details. The gabled center is flanked by chimneys and has six bays on each side. The ground and first floor windows are set in shallow stone pointed arcades, while the second floor windows are separated by pointed capped stone piers. The gabled center also has three narrow pointed windows on the upper floors, which are contained within a three-centered arched broad stone surround. The entrance is characterized by a deeply moulded three-centered arch with sidelights.
