Description

Nos. 37 and 38 Queen Street are a pair of buildings dating from approximately 1840 to 1850, which represent a substantial refacing of earlier fabric. The buildings are five storeys tall, with an attic and basement, and are rendered with a rusticated finish to the ground floor, topped by a cornice. A frieze with a bed mould and a moulded eaves cornice are present on No. 37. Each property has three windows. The upper floors feature windows with eared architrave surrounds. The ground floor windows are round-headed, with vermiculated keystones and a guilloche band linking the spring of the arches. The doors are four-panelled and are topped with semi-circular fanlights, recessed, with vermiculated keystones to the arches. Three steps lead up to the doors, accompanied by cast iron railings which return to the areas. The buildings form a group with the other listed buildings on the East Side of Queen Street.
