Description

This is a row of seven houses, numbered 87 to 101, located on the north side of North Marine Road. They were built around 1820 to 1830. The houses are three stories high with attics and basements, constructed of red brick with grey brick headers. The ground and first floors have stone sill courses, and the building is finished with a moulded wooden frieze and cornice. The roofs are covered in slate and feature dormers with flat roofs. Each house has a four-pane sash window to the right and a three-pane sash window to the left on the upper floors, with flat stucco arches above. The front doors are set below wide three-pane windows and consist of six fielded panels with a two-pane rectangular fanlight above, set within modified Green Doric doorcases featuring engaged fluted columns and an entablature. The buildings from number 31 to 115 (odd numbers), including Gibson’s Hotel, form a group of buildings of group value.
