Description
This is a gate and gate piers with an attached ha-ha located approximately 5 metres from the north-east corner of the stable block at Norton Conyers House. It dates from the 18th century and features wrought iron and ashlar for the gateway, with coursed rubble and ashlar coping for the ha-ha. The gate stands about 1.5 metres high and is made up of pointed standards, with shorter intermediate standards in the lower half and curved strengthening bars. The gate piers are square, approximately 2.5 metres high, rusticated, and topped with a plain entablature, pyramidal caps, and ball finials. The left pier and ball have been repaired in concrete. The ha-ha is around 1 metre high and connects the gate piers to the garden wall to the north-east of the house.
