Description

This is a house, likely originating in the 17th century, but with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of rubble stone with watershot dressings, and has a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and follows a two-cell end-lobby-entry plan, with a two-storey porch at the left-hand end. The porch is built of ashlar and has a gabled design with coping and kneelers. It features a single cusped light on the ground floor and paired round-headed lights above, with the doorway having a Tudor arch and moulded surround. The front of the house has been raised, and includes double-chamfered mullion windows of six lights (with a king mullion) and four lights, each with interrupted hoodmoulds, on the ground floor. Above these are square mullioned windows of four and four lights, although one mullion is missing from those on the upper floor. A plain 19th-century doorway is located on the right-hand side, and traces of an earlier doorway are visible below the window to the right. A chimney is situated on the left-hand gable, where the building now abuts a 19th-century cottage, which is not included in this listing. A barn originally adjoined the house to the right, but this has been converted into a separate house and is also excluded from the listing. An inscription above the upper window of the porch reads "WILLIAM PICKELLS 16-" and connects the building with Stone Head Farm.
