Description
This is an early 17th-century house, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It's constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and originally three bays wide, with a two-storey porch on the left side. A 20th-century half-glazed door is now centrally positioned within a plain surround, while a blocked doorway remains to the right, retaining a large lintel. The ground floor is punctuated by four-light recessed chamfered mullion windows, each with two mullions removed and now containing square four-pane frames, all with hoodmoulds. The first-floor windows are similar, and the left-hand window appears to have been heightened.
The porch has a wooden canted-bay window on the ground floor, a first-floor string course, and a two-light recessed chamfered mullion window above, again with a removed mullion and a hoodmould. The porch and the main house feature shaped kneelers and gable copings. A large, stepped external stack stands against the left gable, with a rebuilt cap, and another corniced stack is located on the right.
The rear elevation includes a lean-to addition to the left, with a small blocked window in its return wall. A square recessed chamfered window is positioned centrally. Kneelers and gable copings match those on the front. The left return has a door in a plain surround to the left of the external stack, and a recessed chamfered window above. A lean-to washhouse and coal store are situated to the right. The right return incorporates an attached barn range, which is not part of the listed building. The interior was not inspected during a recent survey.
