Description

This is a milepost located approximately 440 meters north of Lobster House in Claxton. It dates from the late 19th century and was made by Mattisons of Bedale. The milepost is made of cast iron and has a triangular section with a sloping upper face. On the left side, it has the inscription 'Malton 10 miles' below a pointing hand, while the right side features 'York 8 miles' below a pointing hand. The reverse side displays the manufacturer's name.
