Description
Lobster House and Lobster Cottage are two dwellings that originated as a single house, with 17th century roots and significant rebuilding in the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick in English bond and features a pantile roof with brick stacks. It has two ranges beneath an M-shaped roof. The 18th century facade includes a 17th century staircase turret that is part of the rear range. The building has two storeys and six first floor windows, with straight joints between the second and third, and the third and fourth windows. There is a 20th century half-glazed door beneath an infilled overlight. The left side has three windows, while the right side has two, all of which are sashes with glazing bars set beneath segmental arches and equipped with three-fielded-panel shutters. A two-course band runs along the first floor. The sashes are also topped with brick arches. The building features a dentilled eaves course and tumbled-in gable ends with stone coping and kneelers, as well as end stacks and ridge stacks. Inside, the staircase turret houses the original staircase, which has late 17th century to early 18th century splat balusters.
