Number 30 And Railings Attached To Front Steps

Number 30 is a bank building, now used as offices, dating from the early 19th century and refronted in the mid-19th century. The rear and left side are constructed of orange-red brick in English garden-wall bond, while the front is faced with ashlar and the right side is made of coursed dressed stone. The building features a slate roof with brick and stone stacks, as well as stone coping and shaped kneelers at the rear.

The central-entry plan has a three-storey, three-bay front. The central bay is rusticated and flanked by projecting square end bays. There are six steps leading up to a panelled door with a radial fanlight, and a former second doorway that is now blocked and replaced by a round-headed margin-glazed window with a stone sill. The end bays contain similar paired windows above a sillband, and all openings are framed with keyed round-arched architraves.

The moulded corbel cornice and plain parapet feature grooved volutes over the ground-floor bays. The first-floor windows are tall, large-pane sashes with plain surrounds and have moulded corbel cornice hoods on grooved volutes. The second-floor windows are squat, segment-arched four-pane sashes set in keyed eared architraves, above a raised sillband supported by block brackets. The eaves cornice is moulded and corbelled, leading to a plain parapet with moulded coping.

The property is complemented by cast-iron railings that are ramped up and wreathed at the foot, topped with open spear tip finials.
