Description
Number 8 is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the mid to late 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension and alterations. The front is made of dressed sandstone, while the rear is constructed of Flemish bond brick, featuring ashlar dressings and a slate roof with brick stacks. The building has a central stairhall plan, is one and a half rooms deep, and includes a rear service extension. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and has three bays. The corners are accentuated with raised quoins.
The main entrance features a four-panel door beneath a rectangular fanlight, set in a raised, squared surround and accessed by stone steps. There are early 19th-century bow windows on either side, framed by fluted pilasters and an acorn drop frieze. The remaining windows are four-pane sashes in raised, squared surrounds. The building has raised bands on the first and second floors, and a cavetto-moulded eaves course. The roof is coped with end stacks.
In front of the building, there are early 19th-century cast-iron railings that ramp up to the doorway. Inside, the ground floor room to the right features window shutters with raised bead mouldings, reeded architraves, and a cornice.
