Description
Jacoub's Fashions, also known as Prospect House, is a shop, flat, and house located in Kirkbymoorside on Howe End. It was built in the early 19th century, with a datestone from 1909 that refers to a recessed extension on the right side. The building features dressed sandstone, a pantile roof, and brick stacks, and it occupies a corner site.
The structure is three stories high with a total of four windows. The curved angle of the building includes half-glazed, double shop doors beneath a rectangular divided fanlight. The shop window next to the doors is framed by pilasters and cornice surrounds, with slender shaped glazing bars. To the left, there is a 20th-century door leading to the flat, accompanied by a tripartite sash window with glazing bars.
The original house doorway, which was located to the right of the shop front, has been removed and replaced with a half-glazed, panelled door set in a pilastered doorcase topped with a dentilled cornice on brackets. The original door opening has been blocked and now features a 16-pane sash window with a decorated and dated lintel above it. To the right, there is a bow window with sashes and glazing bars.
On the first floor, the windows consist of 12- and 16-pane sashes set beneath heavy, plain lintels, while the window above the shop door has 20 panes and is curved in shape. The second floor contains small unequal sashes with glazing bars. The building also has four ridge stacks.
