Description
12, 12A, and 14 Market Place is a shop building dating from the mid to late 18th century, although it was partially demolished and rebuilt in the late 20th century. The structure features rendered and painted brick, with the right side constructed in orange-red brick using an irregular bond. It has a timber cornice and brick end stacks that support a pantile roof.
The building is two stories high with a four-window front, and there is a one-story bay at the right end. A 20th-century six-panel door is set in a plain doorcase with a cornice hood at the right end bay. The rest of the ground floor is taken up by a 20th-century pilastered shop front. On the first floor, the windows are 16-pane sashes with painted sills. There is a flat cornice above the right end bay and a moulded modillion cornice on the main front.
