Description
No. 20 Market Place is a house and shop dating from the late 18th century, with alterations from the 19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick in Flemish bond, featuring a moulded timber eaves cornice and brick end stacks that support a pantile roof. It has a three-storey facade with three windows. There is a passage entry to Chancery Lane at the left end, which is beneath an elliptical arch and a moulded cornice. To the right, the shop front includes a glazed shop door situated between plate glass windows framed by pilasters, resting on brick risers. Above this, there is a plain fascia that sits between heavy grooved and scrolled consoles, supporting a moulded mutule cornice. The first-floor windows are 12-pane sashes set beneath painted flat arches, while the second-floor windows are unequal 9-pane sashes, all featuring painted stone sills.
