Description
The Enquiries Office, along with the walls, piers, and gates adjoining John Smith's Brewery, was built around 1883 by Scammell & Collier of Leeds. This structure features rusticated sandstone and has a concealed roof with wrought-iron gates. The office is two stories tall and consists of a single bay, with a single-storey, three-bay wing to the right. To the left, there are gate piers, a gate, and a wall.
The office has a plinth and a 20th-century entrance at one end. The windows include four-pane sash windows and casements, some of which have flat lintels and sills. There is an entrance to the yard behind the office, with a pier to the left topped by a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The wall and similar piers to the left of the office are topped with a wrought-iron overthrow that reads 'TADCASTER BREWERY'. The pair of gates features two levels of bars with decorated lance heads and displays the name 'JOHN SMITH'.
