Description

Brookside is a former pair of cottages, now serving as a school house, dated 1703 with later alterations from the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of slobbered rubble with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It stands two storeys tall and features three bays. The central entrance has a plain surround made of square blocks and contains a four-panel door, with the upper two panels being glazed. Above the entrance is a datestone inscribed with "H N A." To the left of the entrance, there are remnants of a late 17th or early 18th-century decorated lintel and a blocked round-headed window. On the ground floor to the right, there is a 20th-century casement window. The remaining windows are chamfered mullioned, including a tall four-light window on the left side of the ground floor and three upper-floor windows: two three-light and one four-light with ovolo mullions, along with early 20th-century metal casements. The eaves feature modillions, and there are ridge stacks on the right gable end and on the left and right of the centre ridge. The wing to the left is slightly recessed and also has two storeys with three bays, featuring three two-light chamfered mullioned windows per storey, with the centre ground floor window replacing the former central entrance. The interior is not accessible.
