Description
The Main Classroom Block and Assembly Hall at Giggleswick School was built around 1885 by the architectural firm Austin and Paley. This two-storey building is constructed from squared stone with stone dressings and features a Westmorland slate roof. It has a central staircase plan and consists of three bays, with a projecting central entrance bay. The entrance is marked by a round arch with a moulded surround, a hood mould, and a plank door.
On the ground floor, there are four mullioned and transomed windows, with a drip course above the two left-hand windows. The tall central staircase window has three mullioned lights and two transoms, also with a hood mould. The window contains stained glass from the old school dating back to around 1850. A clock face is situated in the gable. The left and right dormers have canted bay fronts, and there is a tall ridge stack located to the left of center. The left-hand return features two projecting gabled bays that are linked by a three-bay range, which has two tall half-dormers.
