Description

The coach house, stables, and barn located north of Nunwick Hall were likely built around 1845, with some additions made in the late 19th century. The barn features coursed red sandstone rubble walls with flush quoins and is topped with a graduated greenslate roof that has a gable weather vane. The stables and coach house are constructed from snecked red sandstone, also with flush quoins, and have a Welsh slate roof with banded red sandstone ashlar chimney stacks.

The structure is two stories high and consists of a five-bay barn that connects at right angles to a two-story, five-bay stables and coach house, creating an overall L-shape. The barn includes right and central segmental-headed doorways, as well as left flat-headed doorways and openings. The coach house and stable feature a large hip-roofed porch with an inner round-arched carriage door and a central 20th-century garage door. First-floor casement windows are set in stone surrounds and are topped with hoodmoulds. There is also a right flat-headed door and window, along with a rear flat-headed doorway and loft doorways, which include some casement windows in stone surrounds.

This building is listed for its group value with Nunwick Hall. A detached barn without a roof, which was in the process of demolition at the time of the survey, is not considered of interest.
