Description

The former coach house, stables, and barn located immediately southeast of Old Postern is a building likely originating from the 17th century. It has been extended in the mid to late 19th century and partially converted into living accommodation in the 20th century. The structure is built of local limestone rubble and features a scantle slate half-hipped roof adorned with 19th-century crested ridge tiles. There is an axial brick chimney stack near the north end.

Originally, the building functioned solely as a barn with a wide entrance on the east side. In the 19th century, it was modified to include stables at the north end and extended to accommodate a coach house, which has its entrance in the north gable end. In the 20th century, part of the loft was converted into a flat, which may have previously served as the groom's accommodation.

On the exterior, the east side showcases a wide barn doorway on the left, featuring projecting stone jambs and a small canopy formed by the roof above. The original large chamfered wooden door frame remains, complete with mason's mitres and a later plank door. To the left and right of the center, there are two 20th-century flat roof dormers with four-light casements that include glazing bars. Between the dormers, the main roof extends over a single-storey lean-to addition, which has a plank door on the right side, a small square hatch to the right of the lean-to, and a row of six pigeon holes below.

The west side has a doorway into the barn on the right, featuring a chamfered wooden lintel with straight cut stops, and a small 20th-century flat roof dormer through the eaves on the left. At the north end, there are double doors leading to the coach house, with two 20th-century casements above and one pigeon hole to the right, which has a slate ledge. The interior has been subdivided, but the roof over the south end, which was inspected, contains late 19th-century scissors braced trusses.
