Description
Beckbank Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the late 17th century for William Dalston, with a mid-18th century extension. The building features roughcast walls with painted V-jointed quoins. The oldest section has a sandstone slate roof with coped gables and kneelers, while the extension boasts a graduated greenslate roof with banded ashlar red sandstone chimney stacks. The main facade of the extension is two storeys high with four bays, while the earlier part, now at right angles, is also two storeys but has two bays, creating an overall L-shape.
There is an off-centre panelled door set in a shouldered architrave beneath an enriched keyed lintel and pediment. The double sash windows are framed in painted stone architraves, except for the one above the entrance. The earlier section features 18th-century chamfered two-light stone-mullioned windows. Additionally, there are two low wash-house extensions with sandstone slate roofs. Inside, the farmhouse includes a boxed-beam ceiling and panelled internal shutters for each window, along with a late 17th-century oak staircase. The staircase window originally had a stained panel depicting the Dalston arms.
