Description

Nunwick Hall is a country house dated 1892, designed by C.J. Ferguson for R.H. Thompson, with alterations from 1899 and a 1930s extension, also for the Thompson family. The building is constructed of dressed red sandstone with ashlar dressings, set on a chamfered plinth. It features a graduated greenslate roof with coped gables, some ball finials, and an open balustraded parapet, along with large banded ashlar sandstone chimney stacks.

The garden facade is two storeys high and has three bays, with projecting wings on the right that vary in height, each extending beyond the other, but fundamentally forming four bays. The left return wall consists of three bays, with the central bay recessed, and includes a two-storey, single-bay 1930s extension that matches the rest of the hall. The garden facade has two doors; one is set in a surround with a two-light overlight, while the other is dated and inscribed with "RHT 1899." There are large multi-light stone-mullioned windows, the largest of which includes transoms. The left return wall features similar but more regular windows. The extension has a glazed door beneath a fanlight and similar windows. The rear of the building includes a gabled stone porch and a flat-roofed passageway with small round-arched windows, along with an additional doorway and stone-mullioned windows.
