Description
Oak Tree House is a house dated 1803, located on Main Street in Kirkby Thore. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks featuring herring-bone tooling. The front of the house has lintel bands on each floor and rusticated quoins. The roof is made of graduated slate, complete with stone copings, kneelers, and corniced end chimneys, and the eaves are moulded.
The house has a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay front with a central panelled door and a rectangular fanlight set within a pedimented doorcase that has a frieze, although this has been somewhat damaged by the addition of a late 19th-century openwork iron porch. There are sash windows without glazing bars on either side of the door and three above, all framed in stone surrounds. A stair window at the rear features a semicircular head with interlaced glazing bars. Inside, the original window shutters and panelled doors are still present.
