Description
Foresters' Hall is a building originally constructed as a single-storey reading room in 1832, with a first-floor hall added for the Foresters in 1844. It is built of coursed rubble with a wet-dashed finish and features corner pilasters. The graduated slate roof has stone chimneys at both ends, with the northern chimney blocked at ridge level. The two-storey, three-bay front includes a plank door on the left and two sash windows, along with an inscription on a rectangular panel that reads: "ERECTED BY SUBSCRIPTION 1832 scientia millaeres est praestantior." There are sash windows at either end of the first floor, with a plank loading door to the left of the center. Above this, a second rectangular panel with foliate decoration at the corners contains a dated inscription in an oval frame: "FORESTERS HALL No. 844 AD 1844 UNITAS BENEVOLENTIA ET CONCORDIA," topped by a life-size sculpted deer's head. The north wall has a central plank door to the ground floor, and all openings are surrounded by stone.
