Description
Stone Cottage is a house from the mid-18th century, built of coursed, squared rubble with rusticated quoins. It features a graduated slate roof with stone copings, kneelers, and end chimneys, one of which has been rebuilt in the 20th century. The front of the house is symmetrical, two stories high, and has five bays. It includes a wide part-glazed central door set in a chamfered surround, with a date of 1751 on the lintel, although this date is a 20th-century addition based on research by a previous owner. The ground floor has four 2-light mullioned windows, while the first floor has one 2-light window and two 3-light windows, all of which have glazing bars. Inside, the beamed interior features an original bracketed fireplace with a 20th-century insert. There is also an original dog-leg staircase with square balusters on a cut string and a ramped handrail, with the bottom newel topped by a large acorn finial.
