Description
The bank barn located to the northwest of Barwise Hall is a Grade II* listed structure, dated 1681. It features coursed, squared rubble with quoins and a massive plinth at the south end. The barn has a corrugated asbestos roof at the front and a graduated slate roof, with an outshut over the barn entry at the rear, along with stone copings and kneelers.
The symmetrical front has steps with parapets leading up to a central plank door, which has chamfered jambs that continue onto an initialled and dated lintel marked R & E.D. 1681, featuring paired semicircles. On either side of the central door, there are two plank doors with chamfered jambs and segmental heads at ground level. A flight of steps on the right-hand end leads up to the ground level on the north side.
The first floor includes numerous ventilation slits and one unglazed chamfered two-light mullioned window to the right. There is also a blocked segmentally headed door with chamfered jambs at the same level in the north wall. At the rear, a large wagon door features chamfered jambs and a segmental head, while the porch walls terminate as stepped buttresses that drop down to ground level on the right-hand side.
