Description
Nos. 16 and 18 on Market Street are a shop originally consisting of two properties, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with later alterations. No. 16 features rendered rubble with a two-pile plan and has parallel graduated stone slate roofs, with the front roof hipped to the north and a stone end chimney. The building has two and a half storeys, a small shop front, and upper floors that each have single sash windows with glazing bars and stone surrounds. There are bands at the top floor sill and first floor, and angled consoles that support the cornice. It is connected to No. 14 by a carriage arch with moulded quoins and voussoirs, with a single sash window with glazing bars above.
No. 18 is also rendered rubble and has quoins, a graduated slate roof, and brick end chimneys. This property has three storeys, with the top floor added in the early 20th century, and features three bays. The shop front has two entrances, and the upper floors each have three sash windows with glazing bars.
