Description
Unthank Farmhouse and the adjoining barns date back to 1685, as indicated by a weathered inscription above the entrance, though they have undergone extensive alterations and additions in the 19th century. The structure is built from a mix of sandstone and cobble rubble. The farmhouse features a Welsh slate roof and banded stone chimney stacks, while the barns are topped with sandstone slate roofs.
The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a barn extension on the right and a three-bay barn at a right angle to the left, all under a common L-shaped roof. The cross-passage entrance has a plank door set in a chamfered stone surround. There are sash windows in chamfered stone surrounds, some of which may be original, along with a smaller fire window on the right. The right barn extension has had its walls raised from a single storey during the 19th century and features plank doors and loft doorways, with sash windows in 19th-century stone surrounds on the part nearest the house.
The left barn includes a segmental cart entrance on the left and additional doors on the right beneath a loft doorway. Inside, there are old beams, including a fire beam and a salt cupboard, along with two old doors. The back kitchen has a 18th-century stone fireplace. The pent extensions in front of the left barn are not of particular interest.
