Description

A row of four houses incorporating a shop, built in the early to mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of scored stucco and have graduated slate roofs. They are two storeys high, with each house originally having a single window to the first floor. Numbers 2 to 6 are the earlier section, and feature doorways on the right side. They have plain sash windows with projecting sills, with the exception of number 2, which has an enlarged ground-floor window, and number 6, which has a shop front dating from around 1900. This shop front has an integral door recess under a fascia and cornice. Number 8 is taller and has a doorway with an overlight on the right side of a sash window with glazing bars to each floor. Ridge stacks are located on the party walls between the houses. The row adjoins numbers 16 and 16A Tudor Square. A plan of Dalton surveyed in 1825 by Merryweather shows part of the site as vacant.
