Description
The outbuilding, which was formerly stables and the superintendent's house for the local fire station, dates from 1884 when the Local Board Offices were established. It is constructed of limestone rubble with slate roofs. The small house is two storeys high and features three windows on the first floor. The stable block, positioned to the left and set forward, is also two storeys and has three bays.
The house has a central door with an overlight and a plain lintel, flanked by four-pane casement windows with projecting stone sills and limestone lintels. There are three similar windows on the first floor and end stacks. The stable has a doorway with an overlight, flanked by windows like those of the house, along with another doorway and a small casement window to the left. On the first floor, there is a rectangular hatch flanked by louvred pitching holes shaped like keyed oculi, and the gable copings are made of ashlar.
An original one-storey engine house in the left wing has been significantly altered and is not of special interest. The outbuilding is included for its group value with the former Local Board Offices.
