Description

The war memorial, located at the south end of the west parapet of Pow Bridge, commemorates those who served in the First World War. It consists of a stone wall approximately 3 feet high with a flat coping surrounding the rear of an elliptical bay. The tapered end piers feature pyramidal tops adorned with wreaths on the front, which enclose the dates 1914 on the left pier and 1918 on the right. On either side of a square central plinth, about 6 feet high and inscribed with the names of the fallen, there are stone benches supported by brackets. The memorial is topped with a life-size stone statue of St George standing over the body of a dragon.
