Description
Joseph Pirt and Co Engineering Works is an iron foundry that has been converted into engineering works, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed calciferous sandstone with flush quoins and features a graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and kneelers. It has a large square chimney stack made of calciferous sandstone, with the upper part built of stepped brickwork. The structure is three storeys high and has two bays facing the river, along with a two-storey, two-bay extension towards the road that includes a central projecting chimney. Most of the original pointed-arched windows have been blocked with bricks or boarded over. A rear extension made of corrugated material is not of interest and obscures the original pointed-arched doorway and windows. Additionally, there are single-storey lock-up garages at the front, which are also not of interest.
